“Nostalgia no longer has to rely on individual memory or desire: it can be fed forever by quick access to an infinitely recyclable past.” Linda Hutcheon
Nostalgia is a repetition – a repetition that brings evidence of the past into the present.
Claire creates sculptural interventions that examine the significance and authenticity of this repetition, working closely with the objects Allenheads has chosen to preserve, along with more personal objects she has found and made. Recognising that these objects are at once a representation and a misrepresentation of the past, Claire chooses to focus on their formal qualities and playfully produces new and satisfying formations. From this view the nostalgic objects signify an idealised past brought immediately to the present. Claire’s playful assemblages explore this link between nostalgia and utopia.
